#1723 CD 135 CHI. INS. CO. PATD OCT. 16. 1883. Blue aqua.
The larger size "Chicago Diamond Groove" with shoulder embossing. A uniquely designed insulator with diamond shaped cutouts within the body, creating less contact between the tie wire and the insulator surface. Examples have been found in New York State, Illinois and Nebraska. Some were also seen on poles in Panama many years ago. However, the majority of those now in collections were recovered in Mexico.
Attractive creases on the glass surface.
An especially nice example in very near mint condition.
Update: 9:15 A.M. Thursday, October 7. Second image added, showing the exceptionally strong embossing
The embossing in the original, first image appears weakened because the shoulder is angled. Also, the dark area under the "CO" embossing in first image is not a chip, rather it's shading from the surface creases.
