#3402 Unmarked. Lignum Vitae wood.
An early 1900's “San Francisco Wooden” insulator which was used on the trolley system in San Francisco, California.
Round top type, which is much scarcer than the cable top design. The cable top types were used on straight sections of the line, with the heavy conductor placed in the top saddle groove. This round top design was used on corners, thus far fewer of them are available in the hobby.
Compared to Lot #3403, this one has a narrower dome and more pronounced wire ridge.
Third photo is a vintage photo showing the San Francisco Wooden insulators in use.
Excellent, weathered condition.
